The mayor of Madrid, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon, was in charge of introducing the new fleet of EMT’s buses that run entirely on natural gas. This initiative is part of various proposals to be presented during the European Mobility Week and aims to implement the municipal slogan “Move smartly, live better.”
The new service, called “Airport Express”, will run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and will cover a distance of 22 kilometers in about 40 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. According to the EMT, it will move 60,000 passengers per month.
Regarding the buses, they are yellow to facilitate identification with other fleets. Moreover, they have special luggage racks, wider aisles and more space between seats to properly address the potential needs of users (transport of luggage, backpacks and other large-scale packages).
Also within the framework of the Mobility Week, the Spanish company Gas Natural Fenosa organized a conference on clean public transportation addressing the theme of transport and its contribution to climate change and the policies needed to reduce the level of emissions from this sector.
